Reggie and Calvin, Episode 2: One More For My Radio-Sweetheart

Episode two....I guess we're really doing this, eh?

This one's about TV and the weekend, I'll let the show do the talking.

(It's a few days late because I spent my time finishing Zelda this weekend)

Reggie and Calvin: Episode 2

--Reggie

NOTES:

-Reggie and Calvin start by talking about TV
-The new Adult Swim episodes lead things off
-Deathklok's Deathalbum is discussed, Reggie mistakenly says he pre-ordered the CD, but did not, he ordered it the day it came out, and Dethwater is the "album" for the fish
-The one good show on ABC is discussed
-The continuing awesomeness of NBC is covered in detail (especially Monday and Thursdays!)
-Reggie talks about how much he likes Jason Lee, but forgets to point out that Ethan Suplee is cool too
-The show was recorded on Saturday, so "yesterday" and "tomorrow" are based on that.
-The Amos Lee, Elvis Costello, and Bob Dylan concert is mentioned
-As is the Wilco concert
-While talking about his first concert (Matchbox20, Semisonic, and Soul Asylum) Reggie becomes distracted by an IM.
-Reggie and Sally go Geocaching
-Unsolicited plug for Reggie's favorite computer repair place
-700w power supply is on the way from Newegg
-Electricity is scary...or is it beautiful?

one, nice ren & stimpy reference.

two, what people seem to like my segment, and why did i not hear about them?

three, i thought frisky dingo was slow this season, but i LOVED xander crews' 'can i has a cheezburger' comment. that and the curly sound he does had me rolling. right on about metalocalypse, though, unfortunately.

Hey guys, I've been listening to your show, but have been unable to comment. I finally got this POS working though, so here goes:

First off, I just want to thank you for the awesome Ren and Stimpy clip, that was my favorite episode!

Next, I want to tell you you're doing a great job. It's nice to hear a show with honest opinions about everyday things. One without obnoxious situations where if people used common sense, they could have avoided them (oh how I hate Seinfeld...yeah, I know, I've just been black listed). I don't think people mind that it's not a regularly scheduled program yet, as long as the posts keep coming. In a way, it's the same kind of marketing as new game consoles. "Ooo, we don't know when the next bunch is going to be released, we better get it right away!" What is that all about anyway? Someone said they don't have the money to mass produce them, so they have to sell a few first to make more. Yeah, Microsoft has no money, I'm buying that.

Speaking of which, I love that the new generation of gaming was discussed on the Xenu segment. (I'd backtrack and leave a comment there, but I am afraid of it freezing up again, so I'll just do it here.) I've been ranting about it for a while now. My old roommate was freaking out about getting a 360, and I kept asking what the big deal was. "Graphics!" Was the only answer I ever got. And in all honesty, I really don't even think they are that much better. That purchase, along with the HD television (we didn't have, and weren't getting, HD cable), and Alienware computer always made me laugh. This is a person who won't even go out to the movies (except Superman, of course) because they are too expensive, but he'll spend thousands on things that enhance graphics. I'm sorry, I just don't have a problem with Mario punching a two-dimensional box, or Pac-man eating a flat ghost. And I really hate those games where you see things from the character's viewpoint. I always run into things, show me where my dude is at on the screen! And all the extra buttons on the controllers???? I want to go left, what do you mean I have to swivel, turn, and then go left? I want to just hit a left button! Oh well, what do I know? I just have an Atari, Nintendo, and one of those original big gray box gameboys. Oh, and the helmet thing with Halo 3 made me laugh, because I was making fun of one of my friends about it the night before. I like your verbal sound effects and mocking tone, it's great.

Which leads me to my next subject. The technology mishap. I can't say I've ever had anything explode. However, my brother and I used to play River City Ransom a lot. If you don't know what it is, it's a game where you run around a city and beat the crap out of people and steal their money. You can pick up sticks and trash cans to beat them over the head with, or throw rocks and stuff at them. Then eventually you get to places you can spend the money and get food to gain your hit points back, or buy books to learn techniques to help you with your ass kicking. There's some badass bosses in it too. But anyway, one day he was playing it without me (so sad!) and he played it for so long that it melted in the Nintendo! He was upset that he broke the Nintendo; I still had my Nintendo, so I was upset that he broke the game! I eventually found it years later at a used video game place, but yeah. Otherwise, I am just a walking disaster around technology in general, but no explosions or fires. All the cool stuff happens to other people. =(

You said we could rant right? I hope so, because that seems to be all I am doing. But I'll stop now.

Keep up the good work, I look forward to hearing your next segment!

I forgot to mention, that GPS game sounds like a lot of fun. I don't have, nor want, one, but that game makes it awfully tempting...

'Pushing Daisies' is by far the cutest and best new show on TV. As is 'Chuck'.

I have been watching 'Heroes' since day one, and i have to disagree about this season being really good. I feel that it's really scattered with too much going on at once. I know they want to keep everyone on track with who is who and how they are all related, and it's mainly for the benefit of new watchers, but, i feel they need to move the storyline along and get to how they all will work together to defeat this new evil villian. And the boyfriend story line with Claire...it's just lame. Show me more Peter and more Hiro, and less Claire (I don't care if she's considered one of the main characters, I kinda don't like her). They just need to move the main storyline along.

Also, '30 Rock' is the best Thursday night show and here's why: it's not an advertisement for NBC and everything they do. It's a satire and Tina Fey is poking fun of NBC. Did you see the episode with Carrie Fisher? In the beginning Liz Lemon is winning the "Followship Award" for promoting NBC and it's products. In one episode they also plugged 'Snapple' with a guy walking around in a Snapple costume. You really think Tina Fey would have a show only to have NBC say "hey, promote this stuff for us"? The writing of the show is brillant, and there are so many good quotes. And after last week's episode, where Alec's character impersonated Tracy's parent's, Alec Baldwin deserves an Emmy. Just look past the Jerry Seinfield episode (damn "Bee TV" and the "bee shorts"...i agree, they really suck, and aren't even Seinfield humor) and you'll see the greatness that is '30 Rock'.

And T'he Office' will get better now that they're not trying to fill an hour with storyline.

And i would like to suggest 'Bionic Woman' for your viewing pleasure. It's not as good as it could be, but it's getting there.

Pushing Daisies and Chuck are the two new standouts of the year for me too. Next week's Halloween Pushing Daisies is gonna be sweet.

I like that there is so much going on with Heroes. And they really are showing less of Claire this season, but what they do show is kind of boring, I will agree with that. It kinda is like that soap opera-y thing that concerned me to begin with. Still....everything is connected with families and such...and Claire's "boyfriend" can fly...it wouldn't surprise me at all if it turned out he was one of Nathan's kids as well....or was a cousin or something, lol. I really like the story line with Peter, and I'm really interested in what they're doing with Sylar, but, yes, they do need to get to the point of it. They need to start revealing things like they did last season. There was something in every episode that let you piece things together, not so much yet in this one. Whoever the new villain is needs to be wrapped up in this season. Parkman's father is involved, but he's clearly not the one who killed Hiro's father...so there's a lot more going on there too. As long as they wrap it up in a season and leave something completely new for the next one, it'll all be fine. If they start leaving too big of plot holes to try to build suspense, however, I won't be very happy. And yeah, they need more Hiro, with him being back in time they need to not do entire episodes without him, he's definitely the best character in the show. And while we're at it, let's add some more Star Trek actors, Shatner would fit in somewhere, right?

I really liked 30 Rock this week. (Yay Carrie Fisher) And everything you say about the satire is exactly why I liked it last season. But I really did not enjoy that stuff with Seinfeld. And when they started showing those shorts with him....yeah....no thanks. I do love Alec Baldwin and I think it's hilarious when Sean Hannity and Bill O' talk about how 30 Rock should be canceled and banned from the airwaves because Alec Baldwin is a dirty liberal who hates his family. I'm sticking with 30 Rock because I like everything about it, and although it is INTENDED to be satire....they're still adversing for all those companies, as well as NBC itself....like how the Office competes with Staples, but Staples runs commercials selling all of the stuff you see them use on the Office....

The only thing more I have to say about the Office is that the episode where Pam and Jim stayed at Dwight's farm was amazing...and I like how on that show they're showing more of the other characters as well.

I watched the first episode of the Bionic Woman....did not like it...at all. I really do feel like I should give it another chance though, but I'll probably just wait to netflix it. It does have lady Starbuck, after all....

All in all, I still hold to my original point, despite some quibbles here and there, TV's quality has gone way up this season...but the writers' strike is going to ruin everything.
